Question 1 for the CCR is how does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? When I first saw this question, I got a little bit scared because it seemed very important, hard, and specific, so my answer must be very spot on. When doing my research, I found that when diving deep this question is not as hard as it may seem, but it does need a clear answer.
To start off, my project uses typical horror conventions like a killer and their victims. Some things though make it so much more than a normal killer and victim story. Our killer (the chef) clearly has some mental problems which you can see a little bit of those in the film opening. You make think well obviously they have mental issues they are a killer, but our opening gives the audience time to think about why, how, and who. The opening leaves mystery and thoughts that can go all over the place. This is one example of why I think our film opening is so special and different. So yes, it may use some typical horror conventions like a killer and a victim but there are also added details to give our own little spin of it.
In our film opening, we try to portray and give examples of mental issues and phycological problems. We are trying to represent that physiologically the chef (killer) is not just a crazy murder, but there so much more deeper problems that go into his character. Some real-world problems we highlighted were addiction because of alcohol and pills. Our film tries to give scary movie vibes but also dives deep into the demented minds of killers and why they are like the way they are.
