Research post

When doing research for my project and genre (phycological thriller) I found some important things me and my partner are going to try and incorporate in our project. To start off, lighting plays a big part in the film opening to give off the tone and vibe. In our project we want to make our lighting in a darker tone to give off the sinister effect that something is wrong or messed up. Also, music plays a big part in the film opening, me and my partner want to do some sort of unsettling classical music, not too fast and not just too slow. Music like this would go perfectly with our scene.

To continue, the costume gives the audience a glimpse into the character just by seeing what the character is wearing. When researching this genre, these key components caught my eye. If these details are done well with more others, the film opening could be done very well.

Credit sequences from phycological thrillers

 Se7en

This credit sequence was done very well. While the movie is introducing the actors in the film it also creates a sense about the movie. The vibe of the movie is very creepy due to the fount of the words and the dark lighting and images. This credit sequence creates a sense of mystery in what is happing but also give the audience suspense on why and what is happing.

Fight club

This is one other good example pf a good credit sequence. The sequence is fast pasted with fast music which can represent the characters mind and how its like. It also shows what looks like to be the nerves inside a human brain which this could represent mental illness. Even though this credit sequence is kind out basic and doesn't give away to much i think it really ties up well with the movie and the main character.

Pearl

This is one great credit sequence. This is one very unsettling and scary way to show the credits. Its just the character pearl staring at the camera with a big smile, crying while the credits show. This shows a lot about the character and shows her crazy mind. This credit scene fits well with this movie because it is very creepy just like the character pearl.

Film openings from phycological thrillers

 The dark knight

This film opening was a very solid, good film opening. In the opening the costume was on point as the men robbing the bank. The background music went well with the scene and so did the low tone lighting. There was suspense built up for the joker during the opening and at the end it was reveled the joker was the one behind this. Just by this opening there is a glimpse of what the jokers character is like.

It

This film opening is another example of one very well done film opening. To start off the dark lighting was done well to create a spooky tone. the costuming was good putting Georgie in a bright yellow rain jacket to highlight his pureness and innocence. How the clown is presented really presents the clowns unsettling character.

Baby driver

This film opening is another great example. The films setting and how it all ties up together is really good. I like how in the beginning we see the boy in the getaway car listen and dancing to some music to show he is playful, but when it was his time to get him and his crew away he can really lock in and drive insanely well. I like how in the end when they get away from the cops they quickly change into normal outfits. This opening shows a playful character that can also do his job very well.

Transition posting to portfolio project

Picking the genre: When I heard about this project I immediately thought of doing a phycological thriller mixed with a horror movie. I wanted to pick these genres to mix because with the story of the film I'm still imagining in my head, I think this would be a very good film opening.

My partner and our plan: I am going to write the script soon so we will get to start filming as soon as possible. My partner and I would like to start picking the music, getting our costumes and getting the setting all planned out.

We're approaching this project with a darker tone and looking into the minds of metal illnesses and some horror aspects. For the music we want to do some sort of unsettling classical music to create the horror vibe. We also want to add lots of twists and turns in the opening scene, so the audience never knows what they will get.

This movie Smile inspired me in a way for my project. In this movie, the characters see a person smiling at them and in the characters head and mind they think it's real, but in reality it is just in their mind and what the monster wants them to believe. I also like how in the movie at times they use very high-pitched scary music, we are going to incorporate that into our opening scene. I want my opening scene to kind of spin off the belief that something is happening in real life, but really it could just be in the person's head.

Portfolio Project Genre #2

                                                            Horror films

Horrofilms are meant to be exciting and scary but also funThe target audience for most horror films would be young adults around the age of 15 to 30. If too young, then the audience might get really scared and freaked out. If too old, then the audience could just not really be that interestedBut horror films do not have a specific age, the movies are meant for the ones interested in the genre.

Some elements and content you will see in a horror film could be trying to create fear and suspense for the audience. The setting could take place in a haunted house or some other isolated, disturbing setting. In horror films costuming plays a big part in the film it creates realistic costumes which could show bloody outfits or even monster makeup. The music in horror films is meant to create suspense and give the audience the feeling of being scared.

Horror films use what they call jump scares to scare the audience unexpectedly. The lighting used in these movies usually lays low with lots of shadows. The makeup used in these films creates a sense of realism that the horror you see is meant to be “real. The angles of the camera like for example a Dutch tilt show disorder in the film.

In some horror movies the company makes what is called a franchise, this is multiple spin off movies after the first one. This marketing strategy keeps fans excited and waiting for a new one. One other technique to gain extra publicity is ending the film on a cliff hanger, the creates curiosity for the audience. These companies market these movies off very clear on what they are like for example it could be like bloody mess or scary ghost movie.

This horror film called the substance is a perfect example of a solid horror film. This movie dose a really good job with the graphic gory makeup and special effects, this element really brings the movie all together. This movie is also different in one way because most of the lighting in the movie was very bright highlighting the characters self consciousness. This was different but it ended up making the movie a really great film.

This movie is another example of one of the best done horror movies I have ever seen. This movies costumes are done very well, even though it might just seem basic by all of the people wearing red it really added to their demented characters. This movie creates a large sense of fear due to the characters doppelgangers, these creates are presented as very scary because of the different makeup looks done on them. The music used in the film really creates horror and creates a creepy tone. This is one of the best horror movies i have seen just based on the way the story tied it all up together.
